Heightened urban logistics demand and a greater sense of environmental responsibility were two trends revealed in DPDs strategy plan for the next five years. High demand saw DPD’s volumes grow by 24% in 2020 and revenue by 23% in organic growth. They’ve become the first delivery company to implement contactless delivery and opened more than 70 new hubs & depots to reach a total of 1,200. By 2030 the courier service endeavours to become the international leader in sustainable delivery and enabler of eCommerce acceleration, something to bear in mind when choosing a courier provider!
Monday saw Amazon launch Amazon Fresh, its first bricks and mortar site outside of the US. The unveiling of the marketplace giant’s grocery store is a fresh take on the shopping experience. Shoppers scan items into the Amazon Fresh app using a QR code, and thanks to Just Walk Out technology can exit without queueing for a checkout, making it the first till-less store in the UK. And of course, there’s never a missed opportunity for fulfilment as the store includes a collection and returns hub for Amazon purchases. Director of Amazon Fresh stores, Matt Birch says this range will span “hundreds” of SKUs covering everyday essentials and ready-to-eat options stocked from UK suppliers, proving there is still some space left for physical sites when it comes to choosing what we eat.
